The mattress market has a wide array of choices that you can choose from, depending on how many people are going with you in your camping trip. You have to carefully weigh if the mattress that you are going to buy will rightly accommodate the number of people that you have in mind.

Most mattresses are specifically designed to have enough space for one or two people without them worrying that the mattress is too cramped. It follows that if your bed doesn’t provide enough space, the people sleeping on it won’t get a relaxing and comfortable sleep. If you are not sure if the camping air mattress that you are eyeing to buy will give you ample space, here are some helpful guidelines to campers out there:

Most bed manufacturers in the US follow a certain guideline, or a chart for mattress sizes. The chart is considered a guideline for standard bed sizes. For example, the standard size for a single or twin sized mattress is 39 inches in width, 75 inches in height. This makes this type of mattress ideal for those who prefer to sleep solo, or who wants to go camping outdoors alone. If you want to bring your kid with you, you can bring a full or double sized mattress which is generally 54 inches wide, 75 inches long. The standard length for single and full mattresses is the same, and some adults find the length too short for them. If you prefer to bed alone and you are less than 5 feet 5 inches in height, then a full size mattress is perfect for you. Generally, consumers buy a twin or full sized mattress for their teenagers.

The most popular mattress size is the queen sized mattress. This type of mattress is 60 inches in width and 80 inches in height. If you love to go camping with your spouse or partner or if you have a sibling who loves camping out as much as you do, then you’d best stick to the queen sized air bed. The size of the mattress makes it very popular for couples. And since an air mattress is so versatile, you can even place it inside your guest room as an extra bed once your relatives come to visit.

For those who love to experience nature as a family, there are king sized mattresses that is very spacious and can accommodate a number of people. The standard size for the king bed is 78 inches in width and 80 inches in height, making it 18 inches bigger than the queen sized air bed. It’s the biggest sized camping air mattress so far and it can give you a larger sleeping space – approximately 39 inches for each person who sleeps on it. There is no standard size for the mattress’ thickness but generally an air bed is 6 to 14 inches thick.
